HOW TO BUILD A GREAT ORGANISATION? Allow your co-workers to be different by respecting the ME to build the WE.
For those managers that still didn't got it!.. There is no greater inhibitor of the growth of organisations than managers who use over and over again the phrase "here all co-workers are the same" !
These people are managers of companies whose growth depends on people or robots?
Yes ... if the basis of the business is Robots or automatisms then they create organisations "where all are equal" ... NOW if they manage business they depend on the initiative, the ideas and the intrinsic motivation of the people to make DIFFERENT, BETTER and EVERY time More in an INNOVATIVE way for the market to realize that the ORGANISATION is not equal to the others .... THEN IT'S GOOD that they perceive the GAP of the situation ...
If we want our company is perceived as "not equal to others" we can not manage our organisation with the logic that all co-workers are EQUAL ... Got it! Simple observation!
For managers is always a trade-of between thinking what is best for the organisation (so if everything is standardized is at least easier) and whats really needed to align the growth strategy. It all depend if you do it looking only at the Excel Sheet or if you do it understand and monitoring constantly the context, internally and externally. So that you all the time know how to close the gap between, what you have and need to develop internally to achieve and implement the strategy and goals, and, whats are external changes that impact your internal effort.
Back to people, the question is: How to balance the strategic orientation and the need to increase co-workers motivation to follow strategic goals...
Two words: Promoting Merit and Initiative and attach to it equity of opportunities! Maybe not easy to implement but extremely fair! don't you think?
There is merit, promote the good initiatives as example for the organisation and let it clear for all that: "all have the same access to the same benefits of those who's merit allow them to distinguished themselves and obtain advantages from it"...
Merit and Equity is not the same as WE ARE ALL EQUAL ... Incidentally, the phrase only refers me visually to facts of gray workers with neck collars ...
As co-workers, what can you do when facing these situations:
- "A wise man once say nothing" - This could be a teaching to follow when you "see or feel" these type of injustice or when you see that managers are clearly taking wrong paths! Just do not say anything and wait for the their own learnings and pathways changes...this is one possibility...but also...
- "Water dropping day by day wears the hardest rock away. " - I'am proudly, Portuguese from the South ... and I was born to recognising the force of Nature ... Nature does not resign herself, she does not lower her arms ... and every day she re-invents herself from her intrinsic strength! Therefore, I believe in other teachings, maybe more popular of people that need to fight constantly ... I would say less philosophical and more of action oriented ... we usually reach more difficult results, that take more time but that are beautiful and that change the form and the content of the Things ... BELIEVE in the driving force of the Action ....
Only the persistent and resilient can change the organisation for its BEST! Only the different One's can make your Organisation a Different organisation in the eyes of the market and the consumer's...
Dont follow utopian rules of all men are igual! YES we are igual in the eyes of Creation but all human are different in itself... each person his a ecosystem of values, beliefs system, culture and experiences...therefore i Believe that we can only care each person as a igual in the "eyes of Creation" if we learn how to respect each one's personality and individuality...
How to create a great Organisation? by knowing how to harmonise and potentiate the individuality dimension of each co-workers for the better of the all community /organisation. We are as good as the sum of the different parts. Respect, Merit and Equity and the Building Blocks. What are talking about? CULTURE!
You can do it also, allow your company to drive the co-workers to small successes, celebrate them as a all and make each one of these small successes an example to the others to follow and even aim bigger and better one's. Harvard's Professor, Teresa Amabile, calls it "Progress Principle" and its all about how motivative and create organisational winners and routines to grown by innovation and culture... and not "you are all the same here"!
Managing people is about knowing human behavior...nobody do the "extra mile" by being told "you are the same as others in this organisation" ! is just a very wrong path to grown and a small step to loose value...
Great organisations are not build with "average" people even if they "think "they have brilliant leaders! ... Great organisations are build with great and intrapreneurially people even if they may "have" average but human oriented leaders...
And the visual journey: LOVE the white page and the silence of words, Be INSPIRED by the Rocks, ADORE "Ordinary People" Driven by talent, DON'T ACCEPT to become a Chinese Worker, BELIEVE that the stronger the "Nots" are the stronger the Network is...and Respect individually of human talent EXPRESSION, RESPECTING people your are fulfilling "creation" purpose of we are all equal.
